Bright, pastel-popping, candy flecked tones tend to color the work of Israeli artist Guy Yanai, a painter who takes suburban scenes of normality and gifts them an imagined life beyond the canvas. Yanai’s almost pixelated collage style marks out his work from the masses, the thick, horizontal brushstrokes that have become a signature helping to create big, bold pieces that grab the attention.
While influenced by painters ranging from Matisse to Cezanne, Yanai’s work is all his own and his inimitable style has inspired a loyal following. With numerous solo and group shows behind him, Yanai is prolific to say the least, with his latest exhibition appearing at Southern Comfort Gallery, Charlotte, North Carolina, running from May 15 to June 21.
