Lithuanian studio Architektūros Linjia designed a pair of single-family houses bordering a forest near Vilnius.
While independent from each other, the buildings are defined by a similar architectural expression. Their closed-off street-facing exteriors, save for narrow strips of glass proportional to pine tree trunks nearby, are the complete opposite of the voluminous, light-filled interiors and courtyards one encounters upon stepping inside the house.
To emphasize the surrounding forest, large glass façades front the gardens and open up directly to a cemented patio, a welcoming space that encourages indoor-outdoor living.
On this note, both houses possess covered outdoor shelters dressed in natural acetylated New Zealand pine wood, a cozy addition to the property’s outdoor spaces. Contemporary LED light strips are worked into the shelter’s interiors, tracing the shape of the copper plate-finished roofs. Follow the architecture studio on Instagram.
