Barry Condon of New Zealand-based Condon Scott Architects takes the helm in designing this architectural beauty with a bespoke design that addresses the residents’ privacy in a land where nature can’t help but stand out.
Located in Wanaka, New Zealand, Ruby Ridge House’s dark-toned cedar-clad curved walls and mono-pitched roof make up a dynamic design that directs the eyes away from the house and into the spectacular mountain and lake view. “The Ruby Ridge site is bordered by suburban streets on two sides so we wanted to create a design that would make the occupants of the house feel secure and not overlooked from the street,” says Condon.
The house is made up of two major sections with a glass-paneled central area, making the most of the wedge-shaped lot. The body of the house acts as a wind barrier as well, while the residents can enjoy the view privately and safely through closed courtyards that blend with the living areas.
Wood and concrete dominate the interior aesthetic, with the bedrooms and living spaces can be found in the sun-soaked northern part of the house, offering the best views in the area.
Condon Scott Architects is an award-winning, Wanaka-based practice with over 600 residential and commercial projects under its belt, and their pedigree is evident in this breathtaking yet functional home.
