Impossibly beautiful landscapes take over the frames of photographer Rain Look’s images in his series West of Tibet III. Endless lakes, wild grasses, and mountain ranges sit beneath mega skies, with contrasting colors bleeding into each other across the compositions which capture a seemingly untouched environment of quiet solitude. Writing poetically on his series, Look explains, “No Man’s Land is located in Tibet. It is on the roof of the world, with its unique plateau style. The altitude is above 5,000 meters. From the perspective of geographical location, most of Ali’s uninhabited areas are permafrost. In a biological sense, it is a desperate situation where any aerobic organism cannot survive. But even so, the stubborn Gesanghua still lives here.”
As if brushed along the ground, the gesanghua flower provides a sort of carpet of life on the frosty Tibetan ground, contributing its vibrant yellow color to the mineral greys, dusty oranges, and twilight blues that take over the landscape. See more work by Rain Look here.
