Set in the bedroom and under the covers, the series Veil by Olympia Antoniadis summons up those Sunday evening/Monday morning vibes we’ve all experienced. The Australian artist uses the bedroom as her stage, and her paintings revel in the intimacy of this territory. Burrowed under the covers, her subjects isolate themselves from the rest of the world, evoking memories of childhood games such as hide and seek or make-believe. The voyeuristic scenes are punctuated with bursts of color, an element that adds playfulness to the narrative. Centered on the mundane, she connects with her viewers through themes of familiarity and comfort.
A graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts in 2015, Antoniadis has participated in a number of solo and group exhibitions around Australia. Discover her work on www.olympiaantoniadis.com and on Instagram.
