No, this isn’t an ad for an artistically imagined alarm system that trips intruders with its delicately arranged array of infrared trip wires, this is an art installation organised by the National Trust, the Farnsworth House, and MAS Context. The driving force behind the project, design practice Luftwerk, teamed up with architect Iker Gil to reinterpret Mies Van Der Rohe’s legendary Farnsworth House, using the presence of light to reveal the secrets behind the building’s relationship with its environment.
Red lasers are scattered throughout the house, bouncing clean lines along the bold, angular features of the home, lingering on walls and windows, while piercing though exterior glass and lighting up surrounding woods. Built in 1954, the home was opened to the public in 2004, with Luftwerk’s Geometry of Light installation illuminating the home over two days in October, 2019. Check out the pictures below.
