Mary Arnold-Forster Architects has created a home and office for its founder in rural Scotland, complete with wildflower garden, greenhouse, and a trusty kayak store. More a clustered group of buildings than one single structure, the project is a result of a number of years of work, with plans gradually taking shape to create a two-story home, separate office, kayak store, and greenhouse around a central courtyard and wildflower garden. While the two-story larch house and the corrugated office differ in size and materials, their shapes each resemble the traditional barn structures of the region, settling them in the open, rural location.
Beyond the horizontal, larch-clad walls of the home, interior highlights include the concrete, terrazzo-esque floor and a beautiful solid wood and concrete staircase.
