Marble Labyrinth Consoles by Marco Iannicelli

Gaming consoles may not be at the top of your list when it comes to necessities, but A Maze by Marco Iannicelli deserves a serious rethink. Crafted in marble, the console is both an analog and electric gaming device that allows users to steer a ball through a labyrinth with a thought-out mechanism.

The maze, made up of linked concentric circles without any end or beginning, has no goal. Iannicelli instead focuses on the significance of the number 7 in the creation of A Maze: considered a mythical number, his design is strongly influenced by Miller’s Number Seven +/- 2 memory psychology, which explains that only 7 chunks of information can be simultaneously stored in one’s short term memory.

Iannicelli’s studio was established in 2010 after his studies in Fine Arts in the Netherlands. With a style that marries simple and archaic forms in movement, his creations marry function and form. More of his work on his website.
