The huge picture window of Maison Bornet is the first hint that this Swiss barn in Ollon, Switzerland is anything but traditional. Swiss studio Savioz Fabrizzi Architectes completely rehauled its interiors while retaining the barn’s historic design. To take advantage of the wonderful views of the Rhone Valley from its elevated location, the architects put in a window running across the width of its living area’s west-facing wall – the only facade that needed rebuilding. The bedroom is found in the same floor, slightly raised in a mezzanine style and partially hidden behind the kitchen furniture.
The lateral wall openings of Maison Bornet are fitted with vertically-aligned wood panels, a modern take on wooden screens that offers proper ventilation throughout the house while providing its dwellers with privacy. At basement level lies an office, a bathroom and a plant room.
