Greatly inspired by a trip to Japan, a client asked Colombia-based architecture and design studio Cinco Sólidos to turn his existing home into a sanctuary embodying the minimalist and tranquil spirit of Japanese architecture.
The exterior of Dos Aguas House is clad in black wood, its sober gabled silhouette a discreet presence against the lush greenery of the property. Wood features prominently in the interiors’ walls, cabinetry, slatted openings, ceilings and floors, alongside touches of marble and the semi-transparent material of the numerous sliding Japanese panels around the house. Every aspect of the home, from its materials to the configuration of the spaces, are balanced and harmonious; each element carefully and deliberately thought-out. Furniture and decorations are restrained yet elegant, a display of quality over quantity.
The living area of Dos Aguas House completely opens up to a wooden patio that looks over two water features from which the house has earned its name: a long lap pool, whose water spills over the edge towards a second lowered basin. Off to its side is an outdoor seating area with a contemporary fire pit, the perfect location to enjoy warm summer nights and easy conversation.
