Limdim House Studio turns a cookie-cutter two-bedroom Vietnam apartment into a contemporary space that reflects the lifestyle of its newest owner. Fondly referred to as Brown Box, the apartment puts together a low-key color palette, arched doorways and terrazzo surfaces to create an oasis calm and sophistication… just as the studio intended it to be.
The studio eliminated an entire bedroom to expand the social spaces, taking down walls and replacing them with arches to delineate one area from the next. Indulging the client’s favourite color, Limdim House Studio used natural shades of brown, beige and white throughout the home, tones which worked well with the gray plaster-like finishing covering the majority of the walls.
Terrazzo slabs were also used generously, from the kitchen counter to the floors and even the bathroom’s tub and sink. Its patterned surfaces, set against the chosen color palettes, lightens the space both visually and physically. “Physically, terrazzo has good hardness, just enough gloss and more heat dissipation than wooden floors, creating a cool feeling especially in tropical areas,” the studio explains. Every element works together to create a soothing, elegant city dwelling, the kind of home one can’t wait to return to.
