Designed around the specific needs of athletes during their breaks from training, the Mykonos Wellness Resort in Greece’s Mykonos island is a stunning destination that could lure anyone in — athlete or not. Kyriakos Tsolakis Architects, a family-run studio with offices in both London and Cyprus, conceptualised the 12-suite retreat to cater to professional sportspeople, highlighting a range of rehabilitation facilities in a restful resort-like ambiance.
Nestled along a south-facing hillside, the resort unobtrusively blends into the landscape, both architecturally and materially: the four levels are staggered and burrowed into the slope of the hill, with exterior walls formed from excavated stone found on site, chosen for its resiliency against the strong winds and other elements. The highest floor features whitewashed walls the region is known for, offering picturesque views of the island. A material palette of travertine, slate, cobblestone, wood, bronze and peeled natural willow are used for the indoors, mirroring the surroundings. The twelve suites come with either private gardens, turquoise Balinese stone pools, balconies and jacuzzis.
The off-duty athletes can indulge in the resort’s indoor and outdoor gyms, hydrotherapy pools and hydromassage hot tubs, all set against a fantastic holiday setting that eases not only sore muscles, but the soul as well. More on the studio via their website and Instagram.
