Irregular topography breeds innovation in Pereda Perez Arquitectos’ House in Pamplona, a residential property that boasts clean lines that play with a sloping plot that forms the building’s base. Stretched out to its borders, the rectangular floor plan extends to create the dimensions for a yawning rectangular concrete box to rise from the manicured garden of the picturesque plot. Located on a steep hill, with a difference of 16 meters in the east to west direction, the building uses the awkward trajectories to its advantage, enabling the architects to create a home that offers a different appearance depending on the angle from which it’s viewed.
Spanning two floors, the upper level and a basement level that eats into the sloping hillside, the home seems always half hidden, the lower level almost teasing its presence. Summing up the home’s clean lines and smooth, angular aesthetic, the architects describe it as “just a simple white piece of concrete.” An understatement perfectly in keeping with its understated charm.
