Perched at the foot of the Cordoba mountains, this bunker-like residence takes in city views from its position high in the foothills. Located in what was once a satellite town but recently swallowed up to become part of the unrelenting sprawl of the city of Córdoba, the display of urban landscape in one direction stands in neat contrast to the allure of nature and mountains in the other. Designed with the natural environment in mind, the home doesn’t merely sit within the landscape, it harmoniously melds with it, the decisive use of concrete chosen to cloak the exterior in the dusty mountainside.
Surrounded by verdant foliage, the design ethos of architects Gaston Sironi and Valentina Machado, prioritized conservation, ensuring minimal disruption to the environment. The vision is guided by the natural terrain, with the house gently integrated into the slope, with thoughtfully positioned patios opened to the rugged mountainscape to blur indoor/outdoor boundaries.
With the sprawling city to one side and the mountain to the other, the layout was meticulously planned to maximize the awe-inspiring views, with primary living spaces facing downslope towards the cityscape. A celebration of the balance between architecture and nature, the tranquil mountain sanctuary is at one with the landscape.
