Finally, those addicted to the ubiquitous beauty of the Ektorp or the perfect perch of a Besta TV bench have somewhere to go on holiday to indulge their Scandi design desires. That’s right, Ikea are opening their first museum. Set to take up residence in the space that housed their very first store, the museum will feature a permanent collection of over 200,000 Ikea products from the company’s archives. Located in the city of Almhult, the museum was designed in collaboration with Wilkinson Eyre Architects and Ualas Arkitektet. Fans can expect to find favourites like the bestselling Klippan sofa or the legendary Billy bookcase among dedicated period rooms and permanent exhibitions, while swotting up on the roots of the word’s most famous design company.
