In a forested area not far from southern Chile’s Llanquihue lake is this idyllic dwelling by Duarte Fournies Arquitectos. The Chilean architecture studio approached the project with the right amount of minimal elegance befitting its location, letting the beauty of its natural surroundings take the spotlight.
Referencing the traditional typology of sheds typical in this part of the region, the dwelling’s structure adopts an elemental geometry. A material palette of wood, pine and timber were used for the exteriors, natural materials that blend subtly into the background. Sunlight floods into the social areas from the home’s north facade of sectioned timber pillars fitted with glass that extends from floor to roof, emphasised by the double height ceilings and exposed wood beams. A staircase leads to the bedrooms and a mezzanine lounge overlooking the tastefully decorated living area.
