This Austere Concrete Cliff House in Chile is a Tribute to Brutalism

It might pay a passing resemblance to a part-finished remnant of Cold War architecture left abandoned to time, but this austere concrete cliff house on the coast of Chile is a finished project. Cozy it ain’t. Created by Chilean architectural firm Pezo Von Ellrichshausen, the home is embedded in the hillside overlooking a sea lion reserve on the Pacific Ocean. Described as ‘more than a hut but less than a house’ the concrete edifice is a stark echo of brutalism, whose raw shell consists of an exposed one-room space with odd levels marking distinct areas and carefully placed skylights attracting rays of light. True, comfort may be absent, but we’d bunk here for a weekend of sea lions, views and Pacific sea air.
