Sitting on a sloped terrain in Mexico’s Valle de Bravo is the contemporary Casa El Pinar, the latest architectural offering from practices CF Taller de Arquitectura and Merodio Arquitectos.
The authenticity of materials defines the project’s aesthetic value. Basic materials of pine wood, concrete, steel and local stone form subtle volumes that ensure habitants a constant connection with the surrounding forest. While one side of the house is closed off for weather protection, the opposite side welcomes natural light with floor-to-ceiling windows. A glass-enclosed courtyard with a sweetgum tree at its center breaks the main social areas in two without compromising the sense of flowing spaciousness.
A long corridor stretches along the length of the living area, connecting to three bedrooms with the same forest views, neutral tones and material palette.
At the end of the residence is a separate concrete bungalow that serves as a TV room and guest house. A south-facing covered terrace and jacuzzi complete the home.
A picture of beauty and warmth, Casa El Pinar subtly inserts itself into its forest setting without overpowering the tranquil landscape. “With its clean lines and sparse materials, this house is an understated retreat that invites reflection and contemplation,” the studios say.
