It may not look like a home, but the architectural design of Wiggly House, a 160 square meter (1722 square feet) single-family residential building by Italian architecture studio ifDesign, represents family values more than it seems.
Surrounded by multi-storey buildings in a bleak neighborhood in Milan, the house’s gray walls and plain exterior evokes a sense of protection for its residents. But the interior is anything but — large glass windows and doors fill the large rooms with light, illuminating the house through closed and open patios.
The roof’s angled design seems to open up, its alternating pitches folding into themselves in an animated gesture. The sequence of the lines in the roof section seem to ‘wiggle’ as it is viewed by different angles. Through its abstract and distinct design, the Wiggly House depicts a family perfectly — strong and protective, yet constantly evolving.
