Glass sculptures? Computer renderings? Alien creatures? None of the above: the mesmerising plumes you’re looking at are shots of ink being poured in water by Italian photographer Alberto Seveso. Fascinated by the idea of stopping time with a single click, Seveso has developed a personal technique one high-speed photography project at a time, each one cementing his reputation as a master of the craft. In Blackground, the mysterious blobs float in a sea of black, their beauty immortalised before dispersing in the water.

“Most of time I can catch something beautiful just by chance but, of course, it’s very very important to find the right light and, the hardest part, find the perfect mix between varnish and water and the way to pour this mix into the tank,” says Seveso. See more of his work here.
