There are dreamers, and there are doers. And then there are some who are both. Alex Hogrefe is one such individual: an architectural visualiser who creates renders of projects that stretch and challenge one’s imagination.
Having studied and worked as an architect in Boston, Hogrefe decided to focus on visualisation full-time in 2014. He channels his architectural background and technical know-how into Design Distill, a visualisation studio based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Together with his business partner Andrew and an amazing crew of artists, they get to illustrate designs by some of the best architects in the world, making them part of the crucial first step in turning a dream into reality.
Hogrefe’s personal website is a creative space, a diary of sorts filled with a range of sketches in various graphic styles, works-in-progress, notes, and tutorials. “I focus the website around projects that I design that act as a framework and set up unique environments to allow me to explore design and architectural graphics at multiple scales,” he says, stressing that these renders are for illustrative purposes.
