House in the 8 by architect Fernando Vignoni is located in a neighborhood of farmlands in Buenos Aires. The house’s defining feature is a large outdoor deck designed to profit from the outdoors and the verdant views of the pine plantation just across its lot. The deck, geared towards the entire family’s enjoyment, becomes a casual lounge space for the parents, while the sunken sandpit at one end assures endless hours of fun for the children.
Constructed in just two months, House in the 8 sports a rectangular silhouette of steel columns, wrapped in an outer shell of white corrugated metal sheets. The warm eucalyptus grandis wood interiors counter the home’s industrial exteriors. With a living area that opens up entirely to the patio via sliding glass windows, the house is immersed in natural light during the day. White curtains can be drawn closed for privacy.
Conscious of its environmental imprint, the home is raised slightly off the ground, reducing its footprint and respecting the property’s natural slope
