There’s a charming naiveté in the designs of Greg Papove, a Vancouver-based designer and founder of Studio Medium. Exploring materials and processes like a kid in a candy shop, Papove puts a spin on common objects, visualising and reinterpreting them in humorous, original formats without sacrificing functionality.
His designs veer from whimsical to cerebral: Five Toes Coffee Table, an odd-looking furniture piece whose five legs need be supported by toe socks, showcases a creative use of cotton and gypsum polymer moulded via a vacuum bag; while his immovable laptop stand Foundation ponders on the portable nature of modern technology and the permanence of a concrete foundation. Others, like the Halo table lamp and the multi-compartment ABK Table, are pieces that naturally stand out in a room for their sculptural, unique look. With inquisitiveness leading his design process, we’re eager to see more of Papove’s inspired creations.
