Fantastic Home Extension Over A Lake by Studio Hamish & Lyons

Raised on steel pillars above a lake, the Stepping Stone House is a stunning home extension carried out by architecture studio Hamish & Lyons in Berkshire, England.

Located behind the main home in an area prone to flooding, the two raised volumes replaced the old outbuildings that were underused. A structural glass bridge connects the larger of the two to the main home’s ground floor, while the smaller one is a stand-alone guesthouse with all the necessary amenities. Wood and glass were used as the main construction materials for their warmth and light respectively.

Throughout the design process, specific attention was given to the 5 young children of the clients. The Stepping Stone House is tailored to engage its inhabitants with the calming effects of nature while allowing them enough space for play and interaction. See more from Hamish & Lyons here.
