When a mountain climber gets inspired to create a product based on his treks, the last thing you’d expect him to design would be a bathtub… which is exactly what former climber and outdoor guide Michael Zimber did. This hefty piece of granite (or marble) will be the closest you can get to a natural pool in your home. And it certain weighs like a (very heavy) rock at 1600-2600 pounds.
Inspired by Asian boat-building techniques, the Otaku bathtub is made from maple veneer woven together into sheets, and remains a lightweight tub at 15 kilos.
Who needs a hammock when you can have a bathtub? From the looks of it, this hammock-bathtub is the pinnacle of relaxation. Vessel by Splinter Works is a sculptural piece made of carbon fiber around a foam core, keeping that bath water warmer for a longer period of time — probably the best place for some well-deserved downtime.

Carina Deuschl suggests XTEND, a collapsible bathtub from lightweight carbon fiber and a waterproof lining. Folded, it can fit in your car’s trunk. Unfolded, you can have a bath anywhere, anytime… as long as you have a hefty source of bathwater, of course.
Tender Tub was designed by Maren Hartveld as her final project for Design Academy Eindhoven. Looking very much like a giant pillow, this freestanding, polyurethane-coated foam rubber tub provides “the perfect setting for the calm soothing experience often sought-after when bathing.” Personally I think it’s best not to get too comfortable when you’re in this tub – drowning issues, and all that – but it sure looks like a tempting place to take a nap in.
