“These faces are the result of simply taking a chunk of paint and molding it,” says Salman Khoshroo. But what Iran-based artist has created in his series White On White is undeniably more than what he puts on — literally and figuratively.
Using a palette knife, the artist takes thick layers of white paint and sets it on a white canvas, resulting in unique profiles whose emotions vividly stand out against the thick, monotoned textures; creating “people that make you feel something, people you didn’t even know you were looking for.”
Khoshroo takes this seeming nod to impressionism a bit further through bold but careful strokes, ironically bringing out bold expressions of human emotion. “The aim is to capture a human spark with minimal intervention,” he shares.
