The award-winning photo series On the Periphery breaks away from the clutter and noise of Los Angeles, offering up calming, relaxing visuals of Californian architecture instead. Sinziana Velicescu, a photographer and filmmaker, pursues an aesthetic that is minimalist and utilitarian, awash in bright pops of color, light and shadow. Seeking out the unique geometries of the city, she presents these LA structures in fragments, carefully composing them into elegant and humorous narratives. “The moments captured are fragments of a cityscape’s lifetime that are most often overlooked by an entire population concerned solely with reaching a destination,” she says.
