French design and architectural studio Multipod is has created the Pop-Up House, a low-cost, energy-efficient solution to sustainable housing, and is shaping up as the strongest challenger to passive building techniques.
The ‘pop-house’ stands out from other similar housing concepts by eliminating the need for central heating. From a solid wooden base, sheets of recyclable and soundproof insulation serve as the building blocks of the house. These are held together by wooden boards and frames, provide adequate warmth — and all these can be assembled using an electric screwdriver.
Rain screens and sliding wood sidings gives it a unique yet sustainable look and feel, and the spacious interior can then be fashioned to your liking. All the components are lightweight and sturdy, allowing for easy transport and construction. This structurally-sound, portable, and environment-friendly dwelling can be easily built by 5 people that can call it home.
