Inspired from and informed by the project Future Forest – a collaborative effort with Tom Piper MBE featuring outdoor figurative sculptural works in London’s Thetford Forest for the Forestry Commission’s centenary year – artist Lisa Wright showcases a spinoff series of paintings titled Infinite Forest at the gallery Coates and Scarry from 29 October to 6 November, 2019.
Wright is known for her distinctive figurative paintings that carry subtle references to historical artworks and the emotional aspects of childhood and adolescence. Bringing her signature use of bright colors and bold brushwork to her latest collection, she creates characters that embody natural landscapes, encompassing fauna, trees and sky. The human forms appear to be slowly taken over by leaves and flowers and weeds, a powerful visual for what she refers to as her ‘inner landscapes’. Infinite Forest is a call to nature, a reminder of our responsibility towards the Earth and an attempt to draw our attention to what’s important.
