Gross Folly or Design Genius? Hard Rock open the World’s First Guitar-Shaped Hotel

Just when you thought you’d seen it all, the new Hard Rock Casino comes along to show you that nobody does brash, opinion-splitting shows of over the top grandeur like the USA. Following in the great tradition of California’s unmistakable vernacular architecture – albeit with a little more polished glass and strengthened steel – Hard Rock’s new Florida hotel and casino brings the brand’s image to life, in the form of a skyscraper built in the shape of a guitar.

It sure is kitschy, but there’s a certain level of fun to be found in a hotel that not only shuns the regular angles of standard buildings but goes crazy with its curves and embraces a madcap idea with more than a semblance of class. The entire project cost $1.2 billion to deliver and features a 7,000-capacity concert hall, casino, and 638 rooms within the 450-feet tall glass tower.
