The Dramatic Volumes of Fran Silvestre Arquitectos’ Benahavis House

Jutting dramatically over a grassy slope in Spain’s Costa del Sol is Fran Silvestre Arquitectos’ Benahavis House, a sprawling cantilevered volume supported by a single column arranged perpendicularly to the hill.

The striking look of the home carries the signature of the Valencia-based architecture and design studio, whose approach to each project accommodates the “technical response to a specific context and the desire to find beauty through the built work”. The open floor plan of the upper level offers heightened views of the surrounding landscape, which one can enjoy from the floor-to-ceiling windows and terraces spanning the building’s entire length. The vertical volume serves as an access to the home’s outdoor areas. The patio/lounge area finds itself directly under the cantilevered structure, providing welcome shade from the sun. It connects seamlessly with the manicured lawns and a fantastic lap pool. More from the studio here and on Instagram.
