Arched Brick Volumes Define the Idyllic Casona Sforza in Puerto Escondido

Beautiful vaulted brick arches define the unforgettable silhouette of Casona Sforza, a stunning boutique hotel in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca.

Entrepreneur Ezequiel Ayarza Sforza sought out Mexican architect Alberto Kalach for its design. Kalach and his team from TAX Architects delivered a sculptural structure composed of arches in varying heights and asymmetrical positions. One volume sits further behind the property and houses the 11 guest suites, connected by a walkway to the bar and restaurant fronting a circular swimming pool. The arched volumes were chosen for their resistance to earthquakes, and the predominant use of yellow-hued local brick aided in brightening and cooling up the spaces.

Interior design elements were curated with the help of MOB Studio, which drew inspiration from the hotel’s distinctive structure and location. Flush with earthy tones, most of the furnishings and decor from rugs to furniture were locally sourced from the region. Other pieces such as cushions and glassware hail from Pueblo del Sol, a community of artisans focused on creating indigenous, sustainable crafts.
