Bali-based studio Biombo Architects rose to the challenge of maximising the use of a lot in the busy city of Brawa, Indonesia in their most recent project guaranteed to turn heads. Tiny, residual plots are common in the area, and this particular property of 190 square meters gave the studio “the opportunity to create tiny incredible designs”.
The home, a 3-bedroom villa that welcomes a swimming pool in its backyard, appears bigger than it actually is by the artful way it was visualised and composed. The principal volume is a remarkable double-height structure that blends modern tropical architecture with traditional elements, featuring a charming mix of timber, iron, glass, and cement walls. Here, a roomy living area, kitchen, and dining room are presented in an open-plan layout, with a mezzanine overlooking these social spaces. Two other bedrooms with their ensuite baths are detached from the rest of the home.
Filling the height of the main house is an indoor garden located next to the staircase, and the surprising presence of greenery – we’re talking indoor palm trees, no less – endows the home with ambient warmth.
With alternating floor-to-ceiling glazings and slatted wood beams, dwellers are offered a constant connection with the surrounding landscape as well as privacy, creating a unique ambiance of an intimate getaway in the middle of this busy city. Visit them on Instagram.
