In Accident Series, Turkish conceptual artist Zeren Badar combines photography, painting and collage to create three-dimensional artworks using found objects, food and cheap painting reproductions. Invoking the spirit of dadaism and neo-dada, he turns pre-existing artworks into Duchampian ready-mades. By extensively layering, covering up or exposing certain sections of classical paintings, Badar leaves his viewers with a feeling of ambiguity and uncertainty: Is it silly, or is it relevant?, we ask ourselves. The answer to that question, the portraits in his artworks teasingly seem to say, is entirely up to us.
Badar’s works have been exhibited internationally, and has been featured in publications worldwide. He currently lives and works in New York City. More of his projects on his website and Instagram.
