A glance at this contemporary apartment makes it hard to imagine its former life as an empty, dilapidated flat with falling plaster and broken windows. Taking charge of its renovation were the owners themselves — incidentally the founders of architecture studio Da Bureau — so the 38-square meter space, dubbed G4 Apartment, was in quite capable hands.
With windows on three sides, access to a small balcony and its most unusual feature, a skylight measuring 3×3 meters, the space is constantly bathed in natural light. Brightening it up even more was the all-white palette used for its walls and bespoke fittings. A sliver of the apartment’s original brick walls, concrete details and wood beam ceilings were left exposed, adding a unique character to the otherwise clean, concise, and minimalistic aesthetic.
Envisaged as a welcoming space for hosting parties and having friends over, it was important that the apartment be highly functional and clutter-free. Numerous shelving solutions concealed behind white panels across the room solved this issue, allowing the designers to completely abandon any freestanding furniture save for the tables and sofa. Installed over the bathroom area is a sleeping mezzanine, which maximised the open-floor layout and rid the space of unnecessary corridors and walls.
Lending warmth and personality to the apartment are the designer’s favourite books and art objects displayed on open shelves, while Muuto chairs and Fild lamps, designed by Da Bureau themselves, complete the cozy decor. Visit Da Studio’s website and Instagram.
