With a focus on sustainability and community, the K’in boutique development project by London-based studio Holland Harvey Architects aims to kickstart a trend of environmentally conscious design in Tulum’s Riviera Maya.
The project envisions a cluster of 8 family homes sitting on a site where 60% of its natural jungle state is preserved. The studio consulted with local landscape designers, botanists and ecologists to establish an ecological agenda that planned the construction around tree retention, replacement of local flora, and the creation of provisional habitats for native fauna and species.
The dwellings subtly blend discreetly into the jungle landscape. Limestone, reclaimed from the construction waste of other developments in the area, form the base and walls of the ground level to mimic the earth, transitioning into sustainably sourced hardwood for the second level in visual harmony with the abundant foiliage of the site.
With airy double-height volumes, roomy balconies, openable facades, verdant landscaped gardens, private pools, and a rooftop palapa offering a 360 degree panorama of the tropical surroundings, the K’in dwellings are geared towards an authentic, eco-conscious indoor-outdoor lifestyle.
