Inspired by buildings that define a city, Chisel & Mouse craft miniature versions of both well-known and obscure architectural landmarks from their West Sussex studio.
Chisel & Mouse was established in 2011 by brothers Robert and Gavin Paisley, who gave up software development to pursue a more creative path. Their models are built using a combination of traditional plaster-cast methods (‘chisel’) and modern technologies (‘mouse’). Cityscapes and individual buildings — smaller versions of them anyway — take shape in their studio, immortalised as stand-alone sculptures, frame-mounted maquettes or even bookends. With the help of satellite data, architect’s drawings, blueprints, photos and sketches, the duo also construct bespoke models of one’s home or favorite building. Guided by their fascination and enthusiasm for architecture, there seems to be no limit to what the studio can produce. “By capturing life and its big ideas in miniature, the brand celebrates the beauty of our industrial world,” they say.
