If you hanker for the days of vintage railway travel, it’s good to know that Belmond is always there for you should your Orient Express dreams ever spill into something concrete and reality based, such as a leisurely ride through the British countryside on board the British Pullman with views supplemented by onboard Champagne afternoon tea. And if the luxury of Belmond’s beautiful trains isn’t quite enough, the arrival of a special Wes Anderson-designed carriage to join the fleet might do the trick. Taking a different direction to the iron horse that he styled for his movie, The Darjeeling Limited, this time Anderson’s luxurious take on travel by train sees a pastel pink ceiling paired with bold green textiles and beautiful symmetrical marquetry across walnut paneling. 

Speaking on the project to dress the Cygnus carriage – originally built in 1952 – Anderson says, “I have often had the chance to invent train compartments and carriages in my movies,” Wes tells us. “So I was very eager to make something new while also participating in the process of preservation which accompanies all the classic Belmond train projects. They are keeping something special alive. An endangered species of travel which is nevertheless very suited to our time.” Book a journey here.
