A dream build for a family who wanted to combine a desire to escape to the serenity of a heavily wooded island in the Pacific Northwest with their adventurous business plan, the beautiful Saltwater Farm is both private residence and boutique hotel in one. Located on the pristine shoreline of Washington’s San Juan Island, the complex is only reachable by sea or air. The project grew out of the of the owners wish to create a harmonious home for themselves and an escape for visiting guests, set amidst the wild hikes and stunning nature of their 162-acre woodland plot.

Led by RAD LAB architects – who hiked and camped on the grounds before work began in order to better understand the environment – the property features a two-story family home along with five small guest cabins spread around the site. Stylish Scandinavian design is the signature of the buildings, whose simple, elegant constructions value openness and views of the surrounding landscape. Check out Saltwater Farm here.
