In a change to taking to the court to practice her forehand smash, designer Danielle Clough has found a more interesting approach to making the most of her old tennis, squash and badminton rackets. A skilled embroiderer and photographer by trade, Clough repurposes vintage rackets into stitched works of art, mounting beautifully complex flowers within the rackets’ ready-made frames. Starting out thanks to the bored limbo of an old gallery job, she armed herself with some cotton, thread and a sheet of felt and never looked back – embracing the freedom to fail by making up her own rules as she went. Clearly the process works, as this is a designer who definitely has game.
