Browse through the work of photographer Nirav Patel, and you’ll feel your breathing slow, your muscles relaxing, and your world becoming calmer. The San Francisco-based artist credits this quiet, dreamy aesthetic to his early childhood: Living in a difficult neighbourhood, he turned his room into a sanctuary that fed his creativity and transformed loneliness into comforting solitude. This quiet contentment has definitely made an impact in his creative work. Shooting mostly portraiture, he focuses on intimate and peaceful moments. Mirrors, reflections, shadows and light are recurring themes that plunge us into a world of melancholy, serenity and tenderness. “To this day I still look for glimpses of quiet when the world is turbulent,” the says. “These images are a window into my world.”
