Lashed by punishing winds on a hillside plot whose relationship with sunlight is…complicated, the bold geometry of the rotated cubes in the oddly striking Sunflower House was a necessity employed to solve problems. Located on the bare foothills of the Pyrenees, on a steep incline that dips down into the Mediterranean, the home is sculpted into a form that filters sunlight into its serene, minimal interior, while allowing the forceful high winds to skip by.
The Sunflower House was designed by architectural studio Cadaval & Sola-Morales, with the home’s rooms, or ‘petals’, directed at angles for optimum sun exposure, delivering intimate interior and exterior spaces from which to take in the amazing views that capture the coast of Spain and Southern France.
