Photographer Soo Burnell documents the enduring beauty of Victorian-era pools around her native Edinburgh, Manchester, London, Paris and Glasgow in her series Poolside

With the exception of occasional swimmers in vintage bathing suits and swim caps, Burnell shoots these stunning locations while they are almost empty, highlighting their exceptional proportions, symmetrical lines, striking geometry and dreamy color palettes. The photographer admits to being drawn not just to their stunning architectural details, but to the nostalgia each place brings as well. Still in use by communities, each location offers its own charm and quirks, which Burnell makes sure to capture as much of while still retaining her signature minimalist aesthetic.

“We are so lucky to have these beautiful pools still in use in our city, and maybe the photographs will remind people how lovely they are,” Burnell says.
