In Toronto, Ace Hotel Group launches its first Canadian outpost with a brand-new property inspired in part by the city’s past and present. Architects Shim-Sutcliffe were commissioned to design the building and the result is a stellar space in which architectural features shine with the help of a loosely mid-century leaning interior created by Ace’s in-house design team, Atelier Ace. First and foremost, the wavy roof strikes for the hotel’s curb appeal, capturing the attention as it sweeps along the facade before coming to a rest just beyond a revolving lobby door. The wavy theme continues inside, with concrete arches soaring upwards in places before descending into low curving ceilings to create more intimate sections, with the scope of the space highlighted by the dramatic shifting in height. Exposed brickwork, wood floors, ceramic tiles, raw concrete, and steel each contribute towards a disparate collection of materials whose colors and textures help to inform the interior’s rustic edge. Rooms are in keeping with the familiar Ace aesthetic but in this instance the minimal interior design allows the cozy window nooks and the accompanying views the chance to take the attention.
Artworks by Canadian artists and designers are spread throughout the hotel, emphasising the local connection, a connection to the city that guests will also find from the rooftop terrace, with the Toronto Blue Jays stadium a key part of the sights from up high. Book now.
