A minimal, calming space created for a family outside of Melbourne, the Ruxton Rise Residence by Studiofour Architects is a picture of serenity. Inspiring a sense of stillness with an interior styled in neutral, natural colors and materials, the home offers a visual representation of contemplative calm.
Created in line with a brief that specified the embrace of slow living, everything about the home was designed to celebrate the beauty in the everyday. In the architects’ own words, “the design was led by the fundamental principle that simplicity enables idleness, and the time we spend idle makes for a healthier state of mind. When we are idle, we want less and are more at peace when we get it.” These principles are evident in the flowing layout of the home, which manages to envelope a central garden ensuring a deep connection with the exterior from every area of the living space. The house may be short on overt visual statements but that’s the whole point, it lets the space, form, and materials create the ambiance in a build that will only appreciate with age.
