Escape and seclusion weigh pleasantly on photographer Robert Mertl’s shots of a walk through the forest. At first focusing on the poised rock formations, balanced as if purposefully stacked, Robert Mertl began to climb higher through the terrain, breaking through the mist and catching the first glimmers of light as it shone through the trees. Fascinated by the interplay of “light and shadow, of sun and fog,” Mertl’s project, viewed in order, captures neatly his rising from the forest canopy to higher ground and the corresponding change in weather and light.
The magical location is the stony wood in Bavaria, Germany. A region famous for its forests and fairy tales, Mertl perfectly captures the sense of place with his whimsical, folky images. See more of his work on his Behance.
