Rob Woodcox Builds Poetic, Complex Formations out of Bodies in Motion

Fine art, conceptual and fashion photographer Rob Woodcox plunges us into a dreamlike world of dance through his intricate compositions of bodies in motion. Subjects are arranged in complex formations, defying gravity as they leap through the air and delivering strong graphic shapes through bodily contortions. The conceptual series, just like the rest of his work, strives to capture fragments of a vivid life sewn by the threads of reality, memory and dream. “Each concept is a declaration of experience and seeks to tell a meaningful story to each individual that views it,” explains the artist.

After reaching out to local dance troupes to bring his ideas to life, Woodcox shoots as much of his fantastic ideas to life in-camera, meticulously piecing them together afterwards via Photoshop. Strong emotional undertones that hint at connectedness, uniqueness and diversity are present in the project, as the artist delves deep into his own personal experiences and projects them through the intricate movement of dance. His surreal imagery has been published in book form, Bodies of Light, available here.

Woodcox splits his time between Mexico City, Los Angeles and New York. Besides commercial and client work, his personal projects embody his dedication to advocacy and other socially relevant issues. Visit more of his work on his website and Instagram.
