Located in Montecito, California, Quarry House is a single-storey residence that was remodelled by AB Design Studio to reference its rock quarry foundation. Bookmarked by two large boulders from the surroundings, the retreat-like residence is a picture of openness and tranquility, shaped by the Zen qualities of the area’s past, which welcomed a collective of bohemian poets, writers and artists.
While elements of the original structure were preserved, the studio reworked the interiors into bright, welcoming spaces fitted with large segmented glazing and birch-veneered ceilings. A long hallway connects the home from end to end, leading visitors through the open-living room and kitchen toward the private areas. In turn, interior design studio House of Honey created a relaxing ambiance with bespoke cabinetry, handcrafted woodwork, and tastefully curated furniture.
Quarry House welcomed new volumes and elements, including a voluminous master suite, a large wood wrap-around deck, and a stepped pathway leading to a picturesque garden courtyard and a newly-built swimming pool and adjacent guest house.
