Progress by Australian Photographer Leah Kennedy

Australian photographer Leah Kennedy observes the interesting contrasts brought about by the interaction of humans with the environment in the inquisitive photo series, Progress.

Her narratives show stretches of often surreal landscapes marked by pitched tents, stretches of highway, isolated road signs and neat rows of houses. Shot from an elevated angle, we get a fuller picture of the enormity of land surrounding these man-made environments. These sprawling scenes convey “the early stages of our interaction with the land to the remnants left behind as nature takes back and erodes man’s effects”, leaving us to imagine the marks of man on earth in the long-term, and willing to our minds the question: Is it really progress?
