Gently mimicking its rocky inclined location in Laurentides, Quebec, the Poisson Blanc cabin was designed by Naturehumaine to leave a reduced footprint on its site. The understated holiday home is spread across two levels, its compact and minimalist form jutting out like an angular, monolithic sculpture against the snowy, wooded landscape of the remote Canadian lakeside forest.
To match its titanium roof coating, the studio opted to paint the exterior’s wooden cladding in all white. The color is mirrored in its interiors, making the 112 square meter (1200 square feet) cabin appear much bigger and roomier than it is. Impressive double-height ceilings pull our eyes towards the lovely exposed joists, a detail that adds to the warmth and character of the home. “Visible from the living spaces, the criss-crossing structure of the roof echoes the name of the lake by recalling the skeleton of a fish, as does its immaculate colour,” the studio explains.
